IP Boot Camp is a non-profit organization made up of IT professionals dedicated to bringing IP (Internet) networking knowledge to everyone.
IpBootCamp.org Objective: Training, Mentoring, Funding
There are three pillars to the IpBootCamp.org objectives: Training, Mentoring, and Funding. The first pillar 'training' involves the delivery of instructor-led 'hands-on' IP Networking training for entry level individuals - preparatory for industry certifications: i.e. N+/CCNA etc and career transitions. The training will be done by qualified volunteers, and the resources required, i.e routers, switches, computers/laptops, training rooms, lunches, marketing/advertising will all be 'gifts in kind' i.e. donated. The training will be 'free' to the (qualified) participants. The second pillar is to provide 'mentoring' to participants and assist them with decision-making, goal setting, and actions in the quest to achieve new skills that will lead to a higher paying job, a career path, and a better life. The third pillar 'funding' is to financially assist participants with the fees associated with certification testing as funding becomes available.
The goal/vision is to scale this initiative far beyond our own individual resources and create a self sustaining volunteer based organization that can deliver this free service far and wide.
A pilot project called 'Build the Internet' Lab is a four hour instructor-led hands-on lab that involves used/deprecated networking gear, specifically, 3 routers (Cisco 2500/2600 series with minimum two 10BaseT Ethernet interfaces) and 2 Ethernet switches (Cisco 2900 series, minimum 12 10BaseT ports) per participant. You don't need high-speed capacity to learn the hands-on fundamentals of IP networking.
This training is only available in the GTA currently. Typically the location is downtown Toronto close to public transit. We will be looking for volunteers to offer similar training in your area. Stay tuned.
